About this policy
This Acceptable Use Policy explains the standards that apply whenever you access or use the Sweepline website, including any interactive features we may make available. It supplements our Terms & Conditions and applies to all visitors, account holders and other users of the website.
Permitted use
You may use the website only for lawful purposes and in a manner consistent with these terms. You are responsible for ensuring that your use complies with all laws and regulations that apply to you.
Prohibited uses
You must not use the website:
- in any way that breaches applicable local, national or international law or regulation;
- for any unlawful or fraudulent purpose, or in connection with unlawful or fraudulent activity;
- to harm, attempt to harm, exploit or place minors at risk;
- to send, upload, download, use or re-use material that does not meet the content standards set out below;
- to send or arrange unsolicited or unauthorised advertising, promotional material, spam or similar communications;
- to knowingly transmit data or introduce viruses, Trojan horses, worms, time-bombs, logic bombs, keystroke loggers, spyware, adware or any other harmful program, code or material designed to interfere with computer software, hardware, data or communications.
Restrictions relating to the website and systems
You also agree that you will not:
- reproduce, duplicate, copy, resell or commercially exploit any part of the website in a way that is inconsistent with our Terms & Conditions;
- gain, attempt to gain or help another person gain unauthorised access to the website, the server on which it is hosted, any account, computer, database or network connected to it;
- interfere with, damage, disable or disrupt the website, any equipment or network on which it is stored, any software used to provide it, or any equipment, network or software owned or used by a third party;
- attack the website through a denial-of-service attack, distributed denial-of-service attack or any similar method.
Interactive services
From time to time, Sweepline may provide interactive areas or services, which may include competitions, games, comment functions, social features or other ways for users to submit or share material. Where an interactive service is provided, we may give information about the nature of that service and any moderation that applies to it.
Where appropriate, we may assess possible risks arising from third parties using an interactive service and, in particular, risks to children. We may decide whether moderation is appropriate and what form it should take. The existence of an interactive service does not mean that we are obliged to oversee, monitor or moderate every contribution, and to the fullest extent permitted by law we do not accept responsibility for loss arising from a user's failure to comply with these content standards.
If a minor is permitted to use an interactive feature, the consent of a parent or guardian may be required. Parents and guardians should explain the online safety risks involved in communicating with other people online. Where a moderated service is offered, we will normally provide a way to contact the moderator if concerns arise.
Content standards
These standards apply to any material you contribute to the website or through an interactive service. They apply to each part of a contribution as well as to the contribution as a whole.
Contributions must
- be accurate where they state facts;
- reflect opinions that are genuinely held where they express an opinion;
- comply with applicable law in the United Kingdom and, where relevant, in the country from which the contribution is made.
Contributions must not
- be defamatory of any person;
- contain material that is obscene, offensive, hateful or inflammatory;
- promote or contain sexually explicit material;
- promote violence;
- promote discrimination on grounds including race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age;
- infringe copyright, database rights, trade marks or other intellectual property rights belonging to another person;
- be likely to deceive any person;
- breach any legal duty owed to another person, including contractual duties and duties of confidence;
- promote, encourage or facilitate illegal activity;
- be threatening, abusive, invasive of another person's privacy, or likely to cause annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety;
- harass, upset, embarrass, alarm or deliberately annoy another person;
- impersonate another person, misrepresent your identity or falsely suggest an affiliation with a person or organisation;
- give the false impression that the contribution originates from Mathis Denanot or Sweepline when that is not the case;
- advocate, promote or assist any unlawful act.
Consequences of breach
We will determine, acting reasonably, whether a breach of this policy has occurred. Where we believe this policy has been breached, we may take any action we consider appropriate in the circumstances, including one or more of the following:
- temporarily or permanently withdrawing your right to use the website;
- temporarily or permanently removing material or contributions you have posted;
- issuing a warning to you;
- starting legal proceedings to recover losses, costs or expenses resulting from the breach, including reasonable administrative and legal costs where permitted;
- taking further legal action where appropriate;
- disclosing relevant information to law-enforcement authorities where we reasonably consider this necessary or are legally required to do so.
To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for consequences arising from measures taken in response to a breach of this policy.
Changes to this policy
We may revise this Acceptable Use Policy from time to time by updating this page. The revised version will replace previous provisions from the date it takes effect. You should check this page periodically so that you understand the rules that apply when you use the website.
